synopsis
Mr and Ms X enter their apartment. The bad news is that after a short while Mr and Ms X+1 enter their apartment, too. They all are equally convinced that a) they are at home b) they were the first to be there. After a short while Mr and Ms X+2 enter their apartment, etc…
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT:
Henry Bergson defined the comedy as the moments when people behave like automata. One of such “automatic” behaviors is our way of dealing with grave news or with grief. The famous model of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, a Swiss American psychologist, describes how the nature pre-programmed our behavior. A person in a critical situation suffers these five stages:
1. Denial: “It can’t be happening.”
2. Anger: “Why me? It’s not fair.”
3. Bargaining: “Just let me live to see my children graduate.”
4. Depression: “I’m so sad, why bother with anything?”
5. Acceptance: “It’s going to be OK.”.
For me the two ideas - Henry Bergson’s definition of comedy and Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s prediction of our programmed behavior - beautifully combine in one clear conclusion: humans are a comic species.
